Bridgestone Reduces Inventory Turnover from January to June to 57.4 Days

Integrated Media reported on August 23, 2010 that Bridgestone Corp. reduced inventory turnover from January to June to 57.4 days, a 24.6-day decrease from the same period in 2009, the lowest level since the first half of 2004 .

Nikkei reported that despite global demand for tires recovering, the company will still strictly manage its inventory of products and raw materials.

In July 2008, Bridgestone set up a center for supply and demand business and concentrated on formulating production plans for domestic factories. Each factory previously had its own plan. In addition, the company has also established appropriate inventory levels for tires of different sizes for each factory and conduct monthly inspections.

The reshaping of Japan's replacement tire sales network also played a boost role. Bridgestone Corporation had 18 sales companies as of July 2009, but then consolidated the 18 companies into five to facilitate centralized management of inventory.
