A few days ago, the patent application developed by the Shanghai Petrochemical Fine Chemicals Department on the “Method of Utilization of Carbon 9 Distillation to Produce Waste Liquid from Cyclopentadiene Production” was approved by the State Intellectual Property Office and granted an invention patent certificate. This method makes more reasonable use of the production waste liquid from the process of making cyclopentadiene from the carbon nine fraction, greatly increasing the economic utilization value of the production waste liquid, and also making the production of carbon nine fractions. The technical and economic indicators of the cyclopentadiene production process have been significantly improved.

According to reports, during the cracking process of ethylene in petroleum, the cracked raw materials produce a considerable amount of surplus material after separating the light fractions below the carbon number 8, which is industrially known as the petroleum carbon nine fraction.

At present, most of the carbon 9 fractions are used as fuels in the industry, and most of the substances contained in the carbon 9 fractions are actually of high utility value. Among them, dimers containing cyclopentadiene monomers are depolymerized to give cyclopentane. Alkene is an important organic chemical and fine chemical raw material, and can be used as a raw material for various fine chemical products such as pesticides, plastics, rubber, spices, medicines, flame retardants and unsaturated resins. Through the cracking and rectification process, the fine cyclopentadiene with purity higher than 99% is obtained from the carbon nine fraction, which greatly improves the economic utilization value of the petroleum carbon nine fraction. However, in this method, a large amount of production waste liquid is produced in the process of obtaining the fine cyclopentadiene from the petroleum carbon nine fraction, and the output is about 50-70% of the input amount of the carbon nine fraction raw material. This is usually handled as a fuel in the art. The development of this patented technology is of great significance for the further improvement of the technical and economic indicators for the production of refined cyclopentadiene from the nine fractions of petroleum carbon, as well as the fuller use of petroleum resources, and also provides for downstream product development.
