Analysis of Sales of Self-owned Brand Cars from January to July in 2012

January-July: Only 8.3% Decline in Sales of Self-owned Sedan, Only 26%

According to the data compiled by Gasgoo.com, from January to July this year, China's domestic car market sold 600,200 units, an increase of 5.8% year-on-year. Among them, the sales volume of self-owned brand sedan was 1.5565 million, accounting for about 25.9% of the total sales volume of the domestic sedan market; compared with sales in the same period of last year, sales volume fell 8.3%, accounting for a drop of 4 percentage points. (Since the sales volume of independent brands includes export sales, and the sedan market for this article also includes a small amount of foreign import data, the market sales ratio is an approximate value.)

Subsidiaries: The sales of Geely's sedan topped that of Chery's and BYD's own sedan. From January to July this year, the total sales volume of the top ten companies of the self-owned brand cars totaled 1.2795 million, and the concentration in the self-owned brand car market reached 82.2%, but it was 3.3% lower than the 85.5% of the top ten companies in the same period last year. The top ten companies in this order are Geely, Chery, BYD, Changan Automobile, Tianjin FAW, Great Wall, Shanghai Automotive, Brilliance, Lifan, and JAC.

Geely Automobile sold 240,000 sedan cars in July of last year, which was lower than Chery's and BYD's sedan sales. In January-July this year, sales rose slightly by 3% to 247,400 vehicles, which exceeded the latter two. Among its main models, the emgrand EC7 has the most outstanding performance, with sales increasing by nearly 30%.

Chery and BYD suffered a decline in sedan sales from January to July this year. Chery’s sedan sales fell 10.8% to 229,400 vehicles. The main reason for this was related to its “subtraction”. Sales of BYD's sedan fell 26.5% to 182,200 units. The main reason for this is related to its strategic adjustment this year.



Sales of Changan Automobile and Tianjin FAW Car both declined. As sales of Tianjin FAW's sedan dropped from January to July this year, sales volume fell 24.1% year-on-year to 115,900 vehicles, which was exceeded by Changan Automobile; sales of Changan Automobile sedan fell 6.3% to 120,000.

Among the car companies ranked sixth to tenth, the sales of cars of Great Wall Motors and Shanghai Automotive both increased by 2% and 8.3% respectively year-on-year to 110,900 units and 98,300 units. Sales volume of Brilliance, Lifan, and JAC cars both declined. Among them, sales of JAC cars fell the most, and sales volume fell 32.1% year-on-year to 49,000 vehicles.

Sub-models: Most of the top ten car sales fell sharply From the model level, from January to July this year, the top ten models of self-owned brand cars are concentrated in the sub-class A and below car market, ranked by FAW in order of sales volume. Xiali, Chery QQ, Great Wall C30, BYD F3 sedan, emgrand EC7, Changan Benben mini, Baojun 630, Changhe Douglas, Haima Fumeilai and BYD L3 sedan. Among them, Xiali ranked first with 94,300 units; Chery QQ, Great Wall C30, F3 sedan and Emgrand EC7 sold more than 70,000 units; sales of other models were below 50,000.



In terms of sales volume growth, except for the Baojun 630 that was listed in August last year, the top ten autos with independent sales have L3 sedan, Dorsett EC7 and Big Dipper. Among them, BYD L3 sedan sales soared 167.4% to 37,900 vehicles, the highest increase. Dorsett EC7 sales growth of 28.4% to 71,500 vehicles, is the main growth of Geely Automobile. Big Dipper sales also increased by 26.8%.



Sales of other top-ranked self-owned brands have both declined, and both have dropped rapidly in double digits. Among them, BYD F6 sedan sales fell the fastest, from January to July this year, down nearly 30% (29.4%) to 7.58 million vehicles. Followed by Benben mini, there are also more than 20% (21.5%) decline.
