MAN Diesel wins G-type engine order

It is reported that the Man Diesel engine has received an order for the G-type engine. The order comes from the owner of Athens, Greece. The order includes four 6G80ME-C9.2 engine orders to power four 5000-teu container ships. MAN Diesel & Turbo received the order, which is the company's first G-type engine order, and four container ships (HullNo.: S616~S619) will be delivered in August 2013.
According to MAN Diesel & Turbo, another Greek ship owner is considering the use of the G80ME-C engine in the 4,800 TEU series built by Zhejiang Ouhua Shipbuilding, so the technical level is reviewed.
The G-type engine follows the design of the large bore Mk-9 engine series introduced by Man Diesel and Turbo in 2006. Longer strokes reduce engine speed, which improves the ship's unprecedentedly efficient design.
