It is reported that Yinghui Southern Shipbuilding (Guangzhou Panyu) Co., Ltd. will build the third high-speed ferry of the Jiuzhou Blue Main Line series built for Zhuhai Expressway Co., Ltd. with the power and propulsion system provided by Rolls-Royce.
The ship is a two-body ferry with two MTU 16V 4000M70 engines driving two Rolls-Royce Kamewa S71-4 waterjets. The whole ship has a total of 288 passengers, and the route between Zhuhai and Hong Kong is fast, quiet and comfortable.
It is understood that the ferry is the third of the same series of ships. The first ferry was delivered in February this year, named "Haijin", and successfully reached the full load of 38 knots during the trial; subsequently, the second "Haicang" was successfully put into operation in March. This is also the first high-speed ferry built in China equipped with Rolls-Royce's most advanced water jet propeller.
Liang Kaibin, general manager of Zhuhai Expressway Co., Ltd. said: "In the trial process, we were very surprised to see that the ferry easily crossed the contracted 34 speeds. We and our customers have provided the Rolls-Royce equipment. High speed, stability and handling are satisfactory."
Wang Shigang, senior vice president of Rolls-Royce Marine and Merchant Marine Business Unit, said: "The perfect combination of Rolls-Royce Kamewa waterjet and MTU high-speed diesel will effectively help Zhuhai high-speed passenger ships to be efficient, economical and stable. Continue to transport tens of thousands of passengers daily and round trips."
The ship's classification inspection and construction design are currently implemented by Yinghui Technology Center and are scheduled to be completed and delivered in September 2017.
