Alcoa to Reject $13 Million U.S. Expansion of Truck Wheels in Hungary

In March 2014, Alcoa announced that it will spend US$13 million to expand its wheel factory in Hungary in order to meet the growing demand for its aluminum alloy truck wheel market.

Alcoa's Székesfehérvár plant in Hungary has started expansion in January of this year. The project is expected to be completed early next year, when the Dura-Bright® wheel production capacity at the factory will double at the current level. .

“As the emissions regulations increase the need for stronger, lighter and easier-to-save wheels, the demand for Alcoa forged aluminum alloy wheels in the European market continues to grow,” said Tim Myers, president of Alcoa Wheel & Transportation Products. The new production capacity in the Hungarian factory will help us to seize this increase in demand.”

The expansion project will create 35 new permanent jobs and will bring 215 temporary jobs during the project. This project also received the support of the local government and the Hungarian government will provide US$4.4 million in subsidies for Alcoa’s expansion project.
