A total of 237 million motorists with 233 million drivers in the country

The reporter learned from the Traffic Management Bureau of the Ministry of Public Security that in the first half of 2012, the nation’s motor vehicles and drivers maintained a rapid growth trend. By the end of June, the total number of motor vehicles in China had reached 233 million, of which 114 million were automobiles and 103 million were motorcycles. The number of motorists in the country reached 247 million, of which 186 million were motorists.

Compared with the end of 2011, the country’s motor vehicle ownership increased by 8.26 million vehicles in the first half of the year, an increase of 3.67%. There are more than 10 million motor vehicles in 8 provinces in the country, of which more than 20 million are motor vehicles in Shandong and Guangdong.

As of the end of June, compared with the end of 2011, the national car ownership increased by 8.11 million, an increase of 7.66%. Vehicle ownership accounted for 48.87 percent of the total number of motor vehicles, an increase of 1.81 percentage points from the end of 2011. There are more than 1 million cars in 17 cities across the country, of which Beijing, Chengdu, Tianjin, Shenzhen, Shanghai and other five cities have more than 2 million cars. The number of private cars reached 86.13 million, which accounted for 75.62% of the total car ownership, an increase of 1.21 percentage points from the end of 2011.

As of the end of June, compared with the end of 2011, 11.43 million motorists were newly added nationwide. The number of motorists in the country reached 247 million, of which 186 million were motorists, accounting for 75.19% of the total number of drivers. The number of drivers aged under 3 years is 94.71 million, accounting for 38.33% of the total number of drivers; the number of drivers with less than 1 year of driving experience is 27.01 million, accounting for 10.93%. Guangdong, Shandong, Henan, Jiangsu, Sichuan, Hebei and Zhejiang provinces have more than 10 million drivers.
