Japan Mori Seiki developed the latest machine control functions

Mori Seiki has developed a new machine control function that corrects the thermal displacement of structural components due to ambient temperature changes and heat generated by ball screws and motors, reducing errors. The temperature is detected by a thermal sensor mounted on the top or the post, the displacement is predicted in real time, and the position of the spindle and the tool holder is corrected based on the displacement.

In order to control the thermal displacement, it is usually necessary to preheat the machine for a period of time before processing, or to increase the air conditioning equipment in the plant. But these practices are not only inefficient, but also have problems with increased costs. The new function does not depend on the factory environment and processing procedures to ensure stable machining accuracy.

The new control function uses a computer to simulate and set the optimal thermal sensor mounting position based on the thermal displacement mechanism. The position of the feed axis is corrected by performing data calculation at high speed while the machine is running. Mori Seiki equipped this function to the "NL" series NC rotary bed and tested it. The result is that the thermal displacement is controlled to 5 μm to 8 μm after 4 hours of temperature change at 10 °C. When this function is not used, the thermal displacement under the same conditions is up to 50 μm.

The company will equip this function on the NC rotary table "NL2500" and the vertical machining center "NV6000 DGG", from November 1st to 8th, 2006 "JIMTOF2006 (23rd Japan Machine Tool Show)" (Tokyo Ariake) Displayed at the International Convention and Exhibition Center).
