The new engine plant of Beijing Benz is jointly invested by China and Germany. It is the first engine plant established by Mercedes-Benz outside Germany, and it is scheduled to be put into operation in 2013. The first stage of production capacity can reach more than 250,000 new gasoline engines. According to Xu Heyi, chairman of Beijing Automotive Group and chairman of Beijing Benz Automotive Co., Ltd., the engine plant will produce Mercedes-Benz 1.6L, 2.0L and 3.0L engines, covering all Mercedes-Benz engine models. After the engine plant is put into operation, it will significantly increase the localization rate of Mercedes-Benz domestic cars and reduce the prices of domestic cars.
